Toyota Tacoma Lift Kits: Separate the Generation and Suspension First

Split Tacoma decisions by generation before comparing lift height

The broad Tacoma name hides three different decision groups in the current lift-kit market: 2005–2015, 2016–2023 and 2024–2026. Current products can span the first two generations, but that does not make every trim or wheel pattern interchangeable. The 2024 redesign adds another important distinction because rear suspension type and factory packages can change whether a kit applies.

For 2024–2026 trucks, Rough Country’s standard 3.5-inch 4WD system excludes rear leaf-spring models, Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), Trailhunter, TRD Pro and TRD models equipped with the specific TRD Off-Road suspension. Rough Country separately sells a 3.5-inch system for the TRD Off-Road Bilstein-reservoir setup. That is a clear example of why “2024 Tacoma 4WD” alone is not enough.

Current Tacoma lift-kit options

Current Tacoma options range from mild 2- to 3.5-inch systems to larger 4- to 6-inch lifts across the 2005–2026 model years. Examples include:

2024–2026: rear suspension and factory shock package are key checks

The 2024+ Tacoma is not one suspension configuration. Current Rough Country pages explicitly separate trucks by rear spring type and by factory suspension package. A standard 3.5-inch kit and the TRD Off-Road 3.5-inch kit are not interchangeable: one excludes the TRD Off-Road suspension, while the other requires the specified Bilstein reservoir struts.

TRD Pro and Trailhunter also need separate treatment. When a manufacturer excludes those factory suspension packages, do not substitute a visually similar kit just because the model year and drivetrain match.

2016–2023: 6-lug, trim and wheel requirements still matter

ReadyLIFT’s current 44-5660 system is for 2016–2023 6-lug Tacoma trucks and lists SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited among the covered configurations, while excluding 5-lug, TRD Pro, TX Baja and XSP-X. It requires at least an 18-inch wheel and publishes up-to-35-inch tire guidance on 9-inch wheels at +12, 0 or -18 offsets.

BDS’s 6-inch BDS823FS uses a different approach and publishes 35×12.50 tire combinations on 18×9 or 20×9 wheels with 4.5 inches of backspacing, while also stating that trimming may be required. BDS additionally lists frame-bracket modification, minor welding and no reuse of stock wheels. Those installation and wheel differences are as important as the shared 6-inch label.

Do not use customer-build photos as a universal tire guarantee

Manufacturer galleries can show real combinations, but a photo of a 35-inch tire on one 2024 Tacoma does not prove that the same tire will clear on another wheel offset, trim or suspension package. Use the product’s published wheel/tire table first, then treat build-gallery examples as context rather than a fit rule.
